Post Treatment Aeration

Municipal wastewater plants typically have to employ some method of treatment to increase dissolved oxygen prior to final discharge into receiving waters. Current or future permits require minimum dissolved oxygen levels in the discharge water to be 5-7 mg/l.

Mazzei offers two solutions

The Mazzei AirJection® Process is ideal for introducing air or oxygen into effluent basins or piping. Treated effluent is pumped from an effluent basin or directly from the effluent piping through Mazzei® Injector(s) which aspirates either air or concentrated oxygen without the need for blowers and compressors. The concentrated oxygen source can be LOX or a PSA type concentrator. The resulting effluent and air/oxygen mixture is then discharged back into the effluent basin or piping through Mazzei MTM mixing nozzles which thoroughly mix the sidestream with the main effluent flow.

Mazzei’s New Pipeline Flash Reactor for Post-Treatment

Mazzei’s Pipeline Flash Reactor provides a new technology for rapid oxygen transfer within a compact footprint. The system utilizes a small sidestream passed through a patented Mazzei Injector to draw in ambient air or concentrated oxygen. The aerated sidestream is then delivered to the Pipeline Flash Reactor where it aggressively mixes with the main flow, uniformly transferring the oxygen in the effluent pipeline.

Where space is an issue, such as in existing built-out urban areas, the PFR eliminates the need for post-treatment cascading systems or diffuser basins required by other technologies. The PFR can also be utilized for the dissolution of oxygen gas in systems with high dissolved oxygen requirements.

Pipeline Flash Reactors are custom designed to each client’s application and performance requirements. Other benefits of the Pipeline Flash Reactor include the elimination of noise and high maintenance costs and downtime associated with blowers and bubble diffusion basins as well as the problems that cascade systems have with flooding.
