The ratio of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate ion directly affects the pH of water. The higher the ratio the more naturally acidic the water. Acid water is a problem due to its corrosive nature. Corrosion of piping materials results in both increased maintenance costs and the addition of contaminants to water.

The U.S. EPA has established Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) standards for lead and copper in potable water. Corrosion is the primary cause of elevated lead/copper levels in water distribution systems.

The GDT™ (Gas Degas Technology) Process shown above provides corrosion control by stripping the CO2 from solution and lowering the CO2/HCO3 ratio. Operating, installation and capital costs are low due to the GDT™ system's pressurized operational design and small spacial footprint.
